The Port of Bremerton’s newest Commissioner, Commissioner Gary Anderson, has started his six-year term serving the Port and the surrounding community.

“I have held a desire to improve our community's way of life and have put that desire into my efforts as a commercial real estate broker.” Anderson said, “[I] have considered running for Port Commission for the past 10 years to further meet that desire.”

Born and raised on a family farm in Kitsap County, Gary Anderson has more than 30 years of experience in land use and development. Starting his career in accounting, he eventually moved into residential real estate, then commercial real estate, real estate development and commercial leasing, before opening his own company in 2011.  He has been active in the community, having served on the Board of Directors for the Port Orchard Chamber, as President of the Association of Realtors, and as a member of the Port Orchard Rotary.

Anderson was elected to serve as Port Commissioner starting in 2020 for a six-year term and is looking forward to supporting the Port of Bremerton to create economic opportunity and jobs in Kitsap County. He’s focused on helping to improve the quality of life for residents and to uphold the commitment to fiscal responsibility to taxpayers investing in our community.

At Commissioner Anderson’s first Commission meeting on January 14, 2020, was the election of Port officers. Commissioner Bozeman was elected to be President of the Port of Bremerton Commissioners, Commissioner Strakeljahn was elected to be Vice-President, and Commissioner Anderson was elected to be Secretary.

As President, Commissioner Bozeman will preside at all public Commission meetings and executive sessions, review each meeting’s agenda, and authorize the issuance of notices for regular and special meetings. Commissioner Strakeljahn will exercise all the functions of the President in the President’s absence or disability and Commissioner Anderson will supervise the retention of Commission meeting records and the safekeeping of the seal and minute books. Each of these terms lasts two years.

The Port of Bremerton Commissioners and staff look forward to continuing to serve local residents and to help grow the region and the quality of life.
