The Port of Bremerton’s Commissioner Axel Strakeljahn was elected Vice President of the Puget Sound Regional Council’s (PSRC) Central Puget Sound Economic Development District. He will be serving with Tom Florino, Senior Manager for Economic Development at Amazon, who was elected President, as well as many other local leaders. The Central Puget Sound Economic Development District Board is the governing board for the federally designated economic development district for King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. Its members include representatives from private business, local governments, tribes and trade organizations.
“Axel’s leadership gives Kitsap County an important place at the regional table,” said Josh Brown, Executive Director of the Puget Sound Regional Council. “He can be counted on to ensure that regional policies are supportive of Kitsap’s strengths, including military related jobs, a high quality of life, and the workforce and educational opportunities that fuel the local economy.”
Commissioner Strakeljahn was also confirmed to the PSRC’s Executive Committee. Executive members are appointed by their General Assembly constituents to represent the member governments. The board is chaired by PSRC’s president, meets monthly and carries out delegated powers and responsibilities between meetings of the General Assembly.
The PSRC develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth, transportation and economic development planning within King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. PSRC is composed of over 80 jurisdictions, including all four counties, cities and towns, ports, state and local transportation agencies and tribal governments within the region.
