This annual Food Drive hosted by Fly Washington has been active for three years, encouraging participating local Washington state airports to act as a community in service of their respective Food Banks - and also acting as a competition for who can raise the most donations. Last year, we facilitated a donation of 737 pounds to Bremerton Food Line, so the sizable increase took our competition by surprise and awarded us first place in the competition. To view our trophy, stop by the Bremerton National Airport!
We couldn't have done this donation alone. Participation from Port staff, tenants, and community partners allowed for dozens of families in Kitsap County to be supported during some of the harshest months in the year. These community partners include Collins Historic Aircraft Foundation, Trader Joe's, General Dynamics Electric Boat, SAFE Boats, Bremerton Pilots Association, Bella Bella Bakery, Burger Claim, Avian Flight Center, and Amelia's Hangar.
2022 was also the first year we offered an incentive to the public to encourage donations. For every ten items individuals donated, they were entered into a raffle with the chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Amelia's Hangar. The lucky winner was Port Orchard Marina tenant Robert Haey - congratulations to him!
Again, thank you to all who participated. We hope to make 2023 an even more fruitful year in an effort to support our shared community.
